“Afruz Amighi: Far from God” by Vanessa Albury

Art Pulse Magazine, No. 19, Vol.5

Walking into Afruz Amighi’s “Far from God” show at Nicelle Beauchene’s space on Broome Street evokes entering a catacomb or an ancient Greek temple. There’s diffused, directional light spilling over Amighi’s slender, powder-white, skeletal columns at the end of a long narrow room with a tall ceiling. Light falls off into darkness along the edges of the room. The piece consists of seven monumental structures with prism-like bases in fragile, sanded epoxy clay that is matte white, like bone.
